Safety First

This video was referenced on OnA yesterday:

That's American quality for you. The seats and doors detach from the car almost uniformly. Try to count how many times passengers either fly out of the doors and under another car's tire or how many times one passenger crushes the chest or head of another with its own head. There's a shot towards the end where bodies are literally being dragged around by the car in twos and threes and one where a head explodes through the windshield. The seat height back in those days were right at the perfect level to allow whiplash to break your neck.

Oh, and one car actually explodes. Awesome!

I'm not doubting the validity of this video, but can someone explain to me the physics on how the crash at 1:34 worked? The car slams into the right front fender, the passenger door pops open and the two front passengers are flung out of the car (I get that there are no seat belts, I'm more interested in how the door was opened)

Faulty manufacturing. These cars were made to drive, not to be hit back then.
