Thank God

For those who don't know, this is how the new season of Supernatural opened up. An angel plucked Dean out of Hell (which is fucking great if you watch this show) and now the stakes in the plot are a lot higher. This is the fourth season of a show about demon hunters and this is the first acknowledgment of the existence of a higher power. We know literally nothing about God or his angels, except that they do not interfere with the lives of man and do not protect them on any visible level from demons or the various supernatural elements depicted on the show.

The significance and tension of the scene is most likely lost on anyone who watches this without knowing the prior story. But suffice to say one of these characters sold his soul to the Devil. This is the result of that deal:

The knife he used on the angel in this scene is enchanted and capable of killing ANYTHING, demon, man, or otherwise, instantaneously. The symbols on the walls are different seals capable of containing/restraining every known supernatural being up until this point. The nonchalance of the angel can be explained by how little they interact with people in the show (as in, never) and plays in contrast to the demons, who are without fail douchebags who need to be killed, and frequently are in gratifying ways. This show started off pretty light, about two brothers who hunt supernatural beings while searching for their missing father, a legendary hunter. Since then, so much has happened and one of the things that I like about this show is that it doesn't pull punches. It frequently kills major characters, and Dean is the first one shown any true reprieve from that (he sold his soul to resurrect Sam, who was stabbed in the spine in one episode), and only because the show can't really function without him. It's definitely worth checking out for any who haven't.

That was corny, what the fuck? I was totally waiting for that to have a point or to build up to something.

I was kind of half expecting the "angel" to give up halfway through convincing the "fallen" guy he was sent from the Lord and just go "Okay, I'm a terminator" and waste him. I was really hoping your Terminator show was like that.

Also I didn't appreciate how that guy was not only a horrible actor but sounded exactly like Keanu Reaves.

OOOOOhhh! It's Supernatural. You love that show, my bad. I really thought that last clip was supposed to be relevant to something WITHIN that same clip but it's not unless I'm probably watching that show.

He didn't sell his soul to the Devil, he sold it to Lilith (essentially).

I really would have wanted to see season 4 play out with Dean starting in hell and Sam trying to find a way to bail him out, but obviously that did not happen.

Sam knows a lot more then what he's letting on though.

I know it was Lilith, but saying that would confuse people who've never seen this show.

Nothing about this show is a CW show. I don't know why they have it, honestly. It's easily the best show on their network though.
